陪伴母亲的经历,成为她创立护理的起点

Providing quality elderly care requires more than professional knowledge and experience. It also calls for patience, understanding, and a genuine commitment to supporting seniors through every stage of life. For Mdm Yeo Eng Lam, Founder of Johnson Residence, this mission was not born from a business opportunity, but from a deeply personal journey with her mother. Before becoming the founder of a care centre, Mdm Yeo was first and foremost a daughter. Her mother was once the pillar of the family – independent, strong-willed, and someone who always took care of everyone around her. She was the one who managed the household and supported the family with unwavering care and strength. However, as the years passed, changes slowly began to appear. What started as occasional forgetfulness and repeated questions gradually became moments of confusion, difficulty remembering time or directions, and sometimes even failing to recognise familiar faces. These changes did not happen overnight, but slowly and quietly over time. For Mdm Yeo, the hardest part was not seeing her mother require care, but witnessing someone so familiar gradually become different from the person she once knew. “Although my mother was still physically present, she slowly became less like the person I remembered.” https://youtu.be/X8BUTSCQ96k?si=1o4FfIX6MYybJwgLMdm Yeo Eng Lam (right) sharing her personal journey with her mother at Kewani’s Mother’s Day event. At times, her mother would repeat the same questions; at other times, she would sit quietly, no longer engaging with loved ones the way she once did. Through this experience, Mdm Yeo came to realise that what many seniors truly need is not just assistance with daily living, but also understanding, companionship, and dignity throughout the changes that come with ageing. This personal journey led her to reflect on an important question: If her own mother needed a place like this, wouldn’t other families need it too? A place that goes beyond providing daily care – one that offers professional support, emotional companionship, and a safe environment where seniors can continue to live with dignity and quality of life. It was this belief that led to the establishment of Johnson Residence Care Centre. What began as a single care centre has since grown into six branches across West Malaysia, with continued expansion into East Malaysia, allowing more families to access professional and compassionate elderly care services. It is also about creating a safe and comfortable environment where seniors can continue to enjoy companionship, social interaction, and meaningful daily moments. Whether through daily living assistance, dementia care, rehabilitation support, or professional nursing services, our team remains committed to providing care rooted in dignity, compassion, and professionalism – ensuring seniors feel respected while giving families greater peace of mind. For Mdm Yeo, building Johnson Residence has never been just about operating care centres. It is about providing other families with the kind of care she once hoped her own mother could receive. Caring for seniors requires more than medical knowledge – it requires patience, empathy and a genuine commitment to supporting residents through every stage of aging. For Ms Nurul Najjah Sawwirrah Binti Abdul Rashid, the Head Nurse, this commitment has guided her journey in elderly care. Ms Najjah is a qualified registered nurse, graduating from Windfield International College in 2013. During her training, she completed practical placements in several government hospitals across Malaysia, gaining experience in departments such as medical care and geriatrics. These early experiences helped her build strong clinical knowledge and develop the confidence to manage different healthcare situations. Although caring for elderly residents can be challenging, Ms Najjah finds the work deeply meaningful. For her, the most rewarding moments come when residents regain strength, feel better after receiving proper care, or simply share a smile. Ms Nurul Najjah with residents at JR Pro Care Centre In her role, she ensures residents are cared for with dignity, safety and compassion. Regular rounds allow her to closely observe residents’ wellbeing and the care environment, so any concerns can be addressed quickly. Respecting residents’ privacy and maintaining confidentiality are also important parts of her daily practice. Beyond clinical care, Ms Najjah works closely with caregivers, residents and families to ensure everyone feels supported. From coordinating health check-ups and hospital visits to listening to feedback from both staff and family members, she focuses on creating a care environment where residents feel safe and valued. 以真心照护,打造如家般的温暖空间

At Kee Ann Care Centre (KACC), many residents and families share the same feeling. This is not a place that feels institutional or distant. It feels warm, personal, and familiar. Behind this atmosphere is the dedication of people who genuinely care, including Mdm Loh, the Assistant Manager of Kee Ann Care Centre (KACC). Before entering the elderly care industry, Mdm Loh had spent over twenty years building her career in marketing and sales, and had also expanded markets in Hong Kong and China. After retiring, she began searching for a more meaningful way to spend her time. Staying at home felt unfulfilling, and she longed for connection and purpose. With an outgoing personality and a natural love for people, Mdm Loh started volunteering at an elderly care centre. What began as simple involvement soon grew into a deep passion. Through daily conversations and companionship, she formed a strong emotional connection with the elderly community, which led her to join the industry full time. For Mdm Loh, elderly care is about presence, patience, and respect. She believes in listening carefully, offering comfort, and treating every resident with dignity. In a society where the elderly are often overlooked, she feels that respect is the foundation of true care. She sees her work as a mutual exchange. While residents need companionship, she too finds fulfillment in their presence. Through shared activities, conversations, and simple routines, loneliness slowly fades and trust grows. As a leader, Mdm Loh values clear and open communication with her care team. By understanding daily challenges, procedures, and small operational details, she works closely with her team to resolve issues and ensure care is delivered smoothly and consistently. Emergencies are rare, but when they occur, residents are promptly sent to the nearest hospital and families are kept informed. Mdm Loh believes that thoughtful daily care and seeing situations from the residents’ perspective helps prevent small issues from becoming serious problems. To her, quality elderly care means creating a sense of home within the care centre. On sunny mornings, she brings residents to the garden for light exercise and fresh air. Occasionally, they enjoy simple outings by the riverside in Melaka. The centre also provides nutritious meals with varied flavours, ensuring residents feel comfortable and engaged. Mdm Loh believes elderly care should never feel commercial. It should feel human, warm, and sincere. She gives her whole heart to this profession and hopes to remain a positive, cheerful presence for both residents and staff. At Kee Ann Care Centre (KACC), care goes beyond routines. It is about heart, connection, and respect.
把工作变成照顾人的方式

Before she ever stepped into a care centre, Hazael Teh, Assistant Manager of JR Segamat Care Centre (JRSC), worked in a fast-paced world of operations, safety systems and daily targets. Eight years in mall management taught her how to run things efficiently, but it did not fully answer a deeper question she carried: “What kind of work truly matters to me?” That question slowly led her toward a path where her presence could change someone’s day, not just complete a task. What draws her to this work is simple. She deeply respects the life stories seniors carry. To her, they are not just residents, but people who have lived, loved, struggled and grown. She believes they deserve kindness, patience and to be treated with dignity, no matter their condition. Hazael Teh (Right) with a resident at JR Segamat Care Centre (JSCC), Johor In her daily work, she listens more than she speaks. She watches expressions, notices small changes, and tries to understand what each resident needs, even when words are hard to find. She believes dignity lives in small moments: gentle words, patience and never rushing someone who needs more time. She also cares deeply for her team, because she knows good care begins with people who feel supported. By being present and approachable, she hopes her staff feel safe to ask, to learn and to grow. When caregivers feel cared for, they naturally pass that care on. Hazael Teh (Right) sharing a moment with residents at JR Segamat Care Centre (JRSC), Johor To Hazael, quality elderly care is not about perfection. It is about making seniors feel safe, respected and not alone. If a resident smiles, feels calm, or reaches out in trust, she knows she has done something right. That, to her, is what truly matters. With a strong mix of academic training and hands-on experience, Josh Gan, Regional Manager of Johnson Residence, leads JR Segamat Care Centre (JRSC), JR Kuantan Care Centre (JRKC) and Kee Ann Care Centre (KACC) with both professionalism and heart. His journey includes studies in Psychology and Long-Term Care, training in home and nursing care, and certification in caregiving and spiritual care in Taiwan. Over the years, he has helped build and develop centres in Kuantan and Segamat, turning them into places that feel more like homes than institutions. His path into elderly care began with a simple but powerful realisation: while many people focus on physical health, the emotional world of seniors is often forgotten. Through his research on elderly mental health, he saw how loneliness, fear and the feeling of being unneeded affect seniors deeply. This became his motivation to make elderly care not just about living longer, but about living with warmth, meaning and dignity. Josh Gan (Left) with a resident at JR Segamat Care Centre (JRSC), Johor To Josh, dignity starts with noticing the small things. A facial expression, a quiet mood, a change in behaviour. He believes true care is about listening, understanding and making changes whenever possible. Problems like falls or bedsores are not just accidents to him; they are reminders that care must always improve and never be taken lightly. Quality elderly care means helping seniors live a life that still feels meaningful, filled with care, connection and respect. Through daily activities, balanced meals, medical support and intergenerational programs with students, the hope is that every senior feels valued, safe and never alone. The greatest reward is seeing a senior smile, not just because they are looked after, but because they still feel seen, needed and alive. Josh Gan (Centre) during Family Day with residents at Kee Ann Care Centre (KACC), Melaka In every centre he leads, the goal is simple: to let seniors feel safe, respected and truly cared for — not just physically, but emotionally and socially as well. Through people, purpose and compassion, this is the kind of elderly care Johnson Residence continues to build.
