Quality care has always been at the heart of Ms Thong Mee Ling’s career. With 37 years of experience in the healthcare industry, she joined Johnson Residence in April 2024 as Quality Director, bringing valuable expertise to help strengthen care standards across the organisation.
Her career includes 12 years with the Ministry of Health (MOH), followed by 25 years at the National Heart Institute (Institut Jantung Negara, IJN) where she served as Senior Advisor, Quality focusing on healthcare quality and operational standards. Today, she is also part of the senior management team supporting JR Pro Care Centre (JRPC) Kuala Lumpur & centres’ under Johnson Residence.
For Ms Thong, working in the elderly care sector feels like a natural extension of her healthcare journey. She believes that quality care requires not only proper systems and training, but also genuine compassion and understanding for each resident’s individual needs.
In her role, she works closely with care teams across Johnson Residence centres to ensure residents are cared for with dignity, safety and kindness. Through regular walkabouts and conversations with residents and caregivers, she gains insights into daily care practices and looks for ways to continuously improve the care environment.
Johnson Residence maintains structured Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality guidelines to support caregivers in managing both daily care and emergency situations. The organisation has also established nine work instructions related to resident care, helping ensure consistent standards across its centres.
Communication with families is another important part of building trust. Families are welcome to connect with the management team whenever needed.
For Ms Thong, quality care means doing the right thing at the right time for every resident, from supporting bedridden residents to monitoring health risks and ensuring daily comfort.
